What is digital portfolio management?

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Digital skills

We’ve developed a mission statement for the portfolio team in MOJ Digital Services to help us think through and communicate how we can best support the wider team to deliver.

This is now displayed on our portfolio wall, and a handy answer to the question ‘what is digital portfolio management?’

Mission statement:

We manage our work as a portfolio to deliver the collection of projects that together make the greatest contribution to achieving our aims and delivering our Digital Strategy.

The Portfolio team:

  • Support and speed up project delivery
Maintain a clear focus on building minimum viable products to a 20 week timescale, and facilitating timely management support where progress is blocked or at risk.
  • Identify and prioritise new work
Select new projects based on a reliable assessment of the value they will deliver to service users and the MOJ.
  • Start new projects in a way that maximises the chances of success
Support team leaders to match people to the right projects, at the right time and actively look for opportunities to share learning, reuse work and build new capability across the portfolio.

I'm setting up similar in my own organisation, and will use this as my opener for our own digital portfolio. So... thanks!
