Week notes 1

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Prisons

The DSD is going to start writing week notes to give regular updates on what our new team is up to.

We’re growing really rapidly now: last week, Gavin Bell started as a product / service manager, Lisa Woo as a delivery manager and Mat Harden, a developer. On Monday, Ryan Behrman, a delivery manager, joined us. They all bring a lot of outside digital experience, and we’re really glad to have them on board.

Here are some highlights:

Gavin has been kicking off work on Prison Visits Booking exemplar, with lots of research on how the prison visits system operates plus plenty of meetings to understand the existing systems and policy. Also on offenders, I took a trip down to Kent Probation Trust to see the ‘front line’ and the digital work that they’ve been doing. This includes enabling offenders to communicate with the probation offices by SMS, and giving all their management team tablets instead of heaps of paper documents.

Trent, Vera and team have been working on improving access to the decisions of the Asylum and Immigration Chamber, which you currently get to through this. Dan and Mat have been pushing ahead with the new court finder, which now includes a working prototype of the auto-complete feature.

Meanwhile in the Office of the Public Guardian, Chris Mitchell and team are working to get more people to apply for Lasting Power of Attorney by using the alpha of our digital tool, which he wrote about yesterday.
