Creating a digital Lasting Power of Attorney – pilot

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Lasting power of attorney, User research

As Simon Manby said in his post on 31 January, the Office of the Public Guardian, MOJ Digital Services Division and Government Digital Service are working together to build an online tool for creating Lasting Power of Attorney forms.

If you’re planning to make a Lasting Power of Attorney, we think this tool will make it simpler, clearer and faster for you to complete the forms before you print them, sign them and send them to the us for registration.

We’ve already done a lot of testing and development, but we know that the tool isn’t perfect and we can make it even better. That’s why we’re encouraging people to take part in this pilot: we want to learn as much as we can from your feedback and make improvements before we launch the service later this year.

Update

We've had a great response to our invitation to help us pilot our digital LPA service. We're really grateful to everyone taking part, and we'd encourage participants to complete your applications before 30 March. Don't forget to send us feedback to help us improve the service.

The high level of interest means we've had to close the pilot to new participants. If you would still like to create your Lasting Power of Attorney forms online, the Beta version of our digital service will be available from 29 April via the gov.uk website.

In the meantime you may wish to familiarise yourself with the guidance already available online here.

          Hi Irene,

You can find out about Lasting Power of Attorney (including allowing someone else to take control of your finances) at:

If you think you will be able to complete the application forms within the next few weeks, then you could take part in the pilot by emailing the address in the post above (OPG.ITWorkstream@publicguardian.gsi.gov.uk). They will then send you all the information you need to use the online tool.

My mum has just gone into a care home and I need to organise a power of attorney. Things get complicated without one. Can I do this online with this pilot?I would make life so much easier.
